A new and disturbing element to come out of the U.K. riots are the Jihadists who are taking advantage of the anarchy and using militant online forums to encourage rioters to “topple the government”. Dozens of contributors have suggested Muslims in Britain should flood social media websites, such as Facebook and Twitter, inciting the British youth to continue rioting.
The media is also awash today with follow up reports about Iran’s so-called “condemnation” of Britain’s handling of the riots.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called on Britain on Wednesday to curb its “savage” treatment of rioters, and even the Libyan government of Muammar Gaddafi has chimed in saying that Prime Minister David Cameron had lost legitimacy and should go.
“What kind of country treats its
own people like this?” Ahmadinejad told reporters after a cabinet meeting in Tehran. “The ugliest treatment is the police’s unacceptable attack on the people, who have no weapons in hand.”
Ahmadinejad has portrayed the acts of the violent hooligans as peaceful protests brutally repressed by police. “What kind of a treatment is this for the people who run out of patience because of poverty and discrimination? … I advise them to correct their savage behavior because this kind of savage treatment of people is absolutely not acceptable.” He also called upon the United Nations Security Council to investigate and take action.
In addition, Iran’s Majlis (parliament) are also seriously pursuing the issue of shutting down the UK embassy in Tehran in case “the violent crackdown on British citizens continues”, said Mahmoud Ahmadi Bighash, a member of the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy.
